Every few months, we see a new social media network or a new feature emerge on the scene. It can be overwhelming for marketers who struggle to keep up with the changes and master them for use with their brands. However, it's okay not to have a presence on every social network. Rather, pick and choose the social media that makes the most sense for your brand.

How do you do that? Take a through look at your brand's social media strategy and ask these 3 essential questions:

  1. Who is your target audience and which social networks are THEY on?
  2. What are the goals of your brand: brand awareness, customer engagement, brand building, something else?
  3. What type of content do you have to share on social: videos, photos, data, blog articles, etc?

Once you have a handle on these questions, you need to understand the pros and cons of each social media network. They all have strengths and weaknesses that work for varying types of brands.
