World Book Day
Today is World Book Day! The United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) created this special day to celebrate books, authors, publishers, and illustrators. After all, reading is a huge part of our lives! World Book Day promotes reading to children and people in under privileged areas.
It was first celebrated in 1995, and is celebrated worldwide. This day is celebrated on the 23rd of April because on that date in 1616, a few major authors died (including Shakespeare) – and a few others were born. World Book Day honors their work, and supports every other author, publisher and book out there. This day shows the significance of books for both learning and pleasure. Imagine our world without books?! World Book Day stands up to illiteracy, and shows the knowledge and power that come from books.
Join the celebration by reading a book or two with your kids or start and easily organize a kids book club or your own book club on the Bookclubs platform. Happy Reading!
