National Mimosa Day

Today is National Mimosa Day! The Mimosa is a refreshing cocktail made with champagne and orange juice. This popular drink is based very closely off of a beverage called the Buck’s Fizz, which was invented in 1921 at the Buck’s Club in London. Similar to the mimosa, the Buck’s Fizz is made with orange juice and chilled champagne. The key difference? The Buck’s Fizz is made with three parts champagne and only one part orange juice whereas the Mimosa is often made with a 50/50 combination.

Mimosas have become an increasingly popular beverage choice for weekend brunches, bridal showers, and more. Many brunch specials now offer bottomless mimosa options at restaurants. Mimosas are named after a bright, exotic flower that grows in tropical and subtropical climates. The drink is thought to resemble the vibrant orange blossoms of the plant.

Feel free to get creative with your mimosas and substitute cranberry, peach, pomegranate, or grapefruit juice for the orange juice. To celebrate National Mimosa Day, organize a virtual happy hour with friends and enjoy a batch of mimosas!
