Coast Guard Day
Today, we honor the military branch that protects our waters and shorelines: the United States Coast Guard. This year, the Coast Guard celebrates its 235th birthday!
Did you know that the term "Coast Guard" wasn't used until 1915? This military branch originated on August 4, 1790 and was originally referred to as the Revenue Cutter Service. More than two hundred years later, we celebrate all that the Coast Guard has done to protect our country!
Did you know that Grand Haven, Michigan, is known as Coast Guard City, USA? Historically, this town's annual celebration has been famous for its large celebration and commemoration of the Coast Guard.
To celebrate this day, share your appreciation for the men and women of the Coast Guard and decorate your windows, front door, or porch with patriotic colors. Know a current or former Coastie? Send them this Coast Guard Day eCard to thank them for their service!
