Themed Halloween Party: Which Witch?

Gather family and friends for fall party with a Halloween party theme: witches. Witches are well-known symbols of Halloween, so to give this party a unique twist make it a Which Witch party.
The twist with this party is that you encourage party guests to get creative with their costumes for the witch theme party and come dressed as their favorite witch. Plan a costume contest and offer prizes for the top three original costumes.
Here are some witch party ideas to help you plan the Which Witch party:
  • Invitations: Email Halloween invitations to family and friends to invite them to the Witch party. In addition to the basic information such as the name of the event, date, time and location, make it clear to guests that they are supposed to dress up as their favorite witches. Some ideas include the Wicked Witch of the West and Glinda the Good Witch (from the Wizard of Oz), any of the Harry Potter characters, any of the witches from The Witches of Eastwick, Samantha from Bewitched, and Sabrina the Teenage Witch.

  • Decorations: Decorate the witch Halloween party with classic witch props such as black hats, brooms and black cats. Fill your party space with witches cauldrons, fog (using a fog machine), and old looking books and potions.
  • Food: Prepare delicious treats for your Halloween guests. Bake brownies and shape them as witch hats with a cookie cutter. Make witches broom sticks with pretzel rods, chocolate and coconut. Melt the chocolate and dip the pretzel rods. Add coconut to the end to complete the broom. For another treat idea, dip apples in caramel, use raisins for the witch’s eyes, and place a chocolate dipped sugar cone on the top for the witch’s hat.
  • Activities: There are many witch party activities that you can incorporate into your event. Ask guests to come up with their own “potions” and have a face-off using witches cauldrons. Limit the participants to 3-5, then let the remaining guests try the concoctions and vote for their favorites. You can also have a witches’ face-off in which guests showcase their talents. Encourage guests to have fun with this and try to stay in character. Lastly, plan a costume contest for the end of the party and award prizes for the costume that best represents the witch.
Have fun with your Which Witch party and make sure to practice your nose wiggling (like Samantha) before the party!
