Cinco de Mayo Dessert Recipes

An essential part to any meal—whether it is a family dinner, baby shower, or birthday party—is dessert! A Cinco de Mayo party is no exception. There are many delicious Cinco de Mayo dessert recipes that would be perfect to serve at your fiesta.

Lime Margarita Pie

This Cinco de Mayo dessert has the perfect combination of sweet and salty ingredients that your guests will love. It's the perfect ending to a festive Cinco de Mayo meal.

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup crushed mini pretzels
  • 6 tbs. melted butter
  • 1 tbs. granulated sugar
  • 2 tbs. boiling water
  • 1 package (7 grams) unflavored gelatin
  • 1 can (12 oz.) evaporated milk
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp. grated lime peel
  • ½ cup lime juice
  • 1 tsp. grated orange peel
  • 2 tbs. orange liqueur
  • 1 tbs. tequila
  • 2 cups whipped topping
  • Coarse sugar
  • Lime slices

Directions: 

Combine pretzel crumbs, butter, and sugar in a bowl and mix. Scoop into a pie plate and press into bottom and sides of the plate. Bake the pie crust for 5 minutes at 375 degrees. To create the filling, first combine the gelatin and water in a small bowl. Let it sit for one minute. Then, pour milk, sugar, and gelatin into a saucepan and heat up over medium heat. Stir until the sugar is dissolved. Pour into a bowl and then place in the refrigerator for 30 minutes. Next, add the lime and orange peel, lime juice, orange liqueur, and tequila to the bowl and mix well. Scoop in 1 cup of whipped topping to the bowl and whisk. Pour the bowl contents into the cooled pie crust. Refrigerate for 1 to 2 hours. Then, sprinkle the sugar over the pie and pipe the remaining whipped topping around the edges. Place lime slices around the edges and serve.

Flan

Flan is a traditional Mexican dessert which makes it ideal for any Cinco de Mayo celebration. It is light and delicious. You can customize yours by adding various toppings such as strawberries and caramel. 

Ingredients:

  • 1 cup white sugar
  • ¼ cup water
  • 3 eggs
  • ½ cup sugar
  • 2 cups milk
  • 2 tsp. vanilla
  • ½ tsp. ground cinnamon

Directions: 

Pour 1 cup of sugar and water into a sauce pan over medium heat. Continue to stir until sugar dissolves and becomes a light golden brown. Immediately pour mixture separately into 6 small baking dishes. In another sauce pan, heat up milk and then set aside when it gets hot. In a medium bowl, whisk eggs and ½ cup sugar until it becomes thick. Pour in the hot milk, cinnamon, and vanilla and continue to mix. Pour the mixture evenly between the 6 dishes. Place dishes in a 9x13 baking pan and fill bottom of pan with one inch of water. Bake for 30 to 40 minutes at 325 degrees. Remove dishes from pan and cool for 2 hours. Place on a dessert plate and serve.
