International Non-Binary People's Day
International Non-Binary Day is observed every year on July 14th - precisely halfway between International Men's Day and International Women's Day.
Katje van Loon, a fantasy-fiction writer who grew up in British Columbia and Hawaii, wrote a blog post in 2012 suggesting the need for the day and the justification of the date. A few years later, Katje realized that it was recognized by Wikipedia and celebrated in several countries.
Non-binary people identify with a gender outside the binary definitions of male and female. International Non-Binary Day (which is preceded by Non-Binary Week) is a day to recognize and give visibility to non-binary individuals. In Katje's words, "We can feel invisible in a world that still hasn't completely understood what we are. So it's nice to have a day that recognizes our existence."
