In England and other parts of Europe, people have celebrated “Mothering Sunday” since the 16th century. Our modern American holiday is a relatively recent tradition in comparison. In 1912, a woman named Anna Jarvis from Grafton, West Virginia declared the first Mother’s Day in the United States.
