D-Day
Today is the anniversary of D-Day, the day the Allied forces of America, Canada, Britain, and France invaded five beaches in Normandy, France to defeat German forces during World War II.
On June 6, 1944, over 150,000 Allied soldiers took part in a naval, air, and land assault on Nazi-occupied Normandy in what was the largest amphibious invasion in military history. D-Day marks the start of the campaign that would ultimately liberate Europe, defeat Germany, and end the war.
To get involved or learn more about D-Day, take a virtual tour of the National D-Day Memorial, which was designed to teach the lessons and legacy of D-Day to future generations, or donate to The Best Defense Foundation’s Adopt A Veteran program. The program brings WWII Veterans back to Normandy to “experience the love and appreciation of those they liberated.”
