It’s Jackie Robinson Day! On this day in 1947, Jackie Robinson made his first major league debut on Opening Day. Jackie Robinson’s debut on the Brooklyn Dodgers made significant advancements for integration in Minor and Major League Baseball and professional sports alike.
Robinson played a crucial role in the Dodgers World Series win in 1955, and he was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1962. In 2016, all MLB players and on-field personnel wore number 42 jerseys in honor of Jackie Robinson Day and the legacy he left for both the sport and racial integration.
