Today's Reason to Celebrate

August 11, 2022 was

National Son and Daughter Day

Today is National Son and Daughter Day! This holiday recognizes the positive impact children have on their parents’ lives. The origins of this holiday can be traced back to 1936 Missouri. A man named J. Henry Dusenberry first circulated the idea after overhearing a young child ask why there was no holiday honoring sons and daughters. His efforts caught on and by 1945 people observed the holiday in as many as 22 states. To celebrate, parents displayed flowers in their homes to recognize each of their children.

National Son and Daughter Day is the perfect opportunity to celebrate your sons and daughters. Share a meal, enjoy the outdoors together, or reminisce with some home videos. You can even send a free Son and Daughter Day eCard to express your love and appreciation. Whatever you decide to do, remember to let your kids know how much they mean to you today. Happy National Son and Daughter day!
