Golden Globe Awards

Tonight is the biggest night of the year for the entertainment industry—the Golden Globes! The first Golden Globes ceremony took place in December of 1947. It was a modest luncheon hosted by the newly formed Hollywood Foreign Correspondents Association (HFCA) to honor Harry M. Warner, the president of Warner Brothers. Today, an average of 250 million viewers tune in to watch this star-studded Hollywood event.

Unlike the Academy Awards, the Golden Globes recognize achievements in both film and television entertainment. In 1951, the HFCA also made the decision to separate the big awards into two categories—drama and musical/comedy. To find out about this year’s nominees, check out the official Golden Globes website.
