National Cosmopolitan Day
Today is National Cosmopolitan Day! The Cosmopolitan, or better known simply as the “Cosmo,” is a cocktail made with vodka, triple sec, lime juice, and cranberry juice. The sweet, pink drink was invented in 1987 by a bartender named Toby Cecchini. Though variations of the Cosmopolitan were invented prior to this, Cecchini’s concoction became formally known as the popular beverage we all know as the Cosmo.
Many believe that the Cosmopolitan derives from a refreshing cocktail called The Daisy. The Daisy cocktail was created in the 1930s, and is made from gin, Cointreau, lemon juice, and raspberry syrup — very similar flavors to the modern-day Cosmo!
The well-known television series Sex in the City popularized the Cosmo, causing it to become an iconic symbol of style and fad sophistication. The Cosmo is now one of the most well-known and influential cocktails in history. To celebrate National Cosmopolitan Day, invite some friends for a virtual Cosmo tasting party!
