National Pearl Harbor Remembrance Day

Today honors and commemorates the fallen U.S. citizens who were killed in the Japanese surprise attack on Pearl Harbor in Hawaii. The attack of the Japanese Imperial Navy on Honolulu’s Pearl Harbor base occurred on December 7, 1941 and resulted in the United States’ entrance into World War II. President Franklin Roosevelt described the attack on Pearl Harbor as “a date which will live in infamy.”

The USS Arizona Memorial at Pearl Harbor is one of the most visited places in Hawaii. Millions of people from across the world pay visit to this historical memorial each year.

2,403 Americans died and 1,178 were wounded during the Pearl Harbor attack. Today, we honor those who lost their lives or were injured on December 7, 1941, and we remember this fateful event that played a pivotal role in U.S. history.
