Ramadan

Ramadan begins tonight! Ramadan is the ninth month of the Islamic lunar calendar. Muslims use this month to reflect and evaluate themselves in relation to Islamic guidance.

Muslims spend each day during this month fasting during daylight hours. This fast includes eating, drinking, smoking, and participating in ill-natured activities. The fasting time is believed to help purify the soul, refocus attention to religion, and practice self-control and commitment. Fasting is one of the main types of Islamic worship, as it proves obedience and compliance. During Ramadan, Muslims also ask for forgiveness for their wrongdoings in the past and work toward bettering themselves for the coming year.

Eid al-Fitr marks the end of Ramadan and a celebratory end to the holy month of fasting. Wish your family and friends a Happy Ramadan this month!
