National Public Gardens Day

It’s National Public Gardens Day! Today celebrates the nation’s public gardens and brings awareness to the important role they play in society. Although many public gardens and parks are currently closed, today is a day to celebrate the great outdoors.

Botanical gardens, arboreta, and other types of organized outdoor spaces help to encourage environmental management, plant and water conservation, and education in communities. Public gardens offer fun activities for their communities, while also providing resources, education, and research.

Rain Bird Corporation and the American Public Gardens Association started National Public Gardens Day to raise awareness on the conservation and education efforts of the nation’s public gardens. The first National Public Gardens Day was in 2009, and was a huge success.

Celebrate today by taking a walk outside or donating to help support your local public garden. Happy National Public Gardens Day!
