Celebrate Guy Fawkes Day

"Remember, remember, the fifth of November." This famous poem is a reminder that November 5 marks Guy Fawkes Day, the anniversary of the Gunpowder Plot, a conspiracy to blow up the English Parliment to overthrow the king in 1605.
Named for Guy Fawkes, the most famous of the conspirators, Guy Fawkes Day is celebrated in the United Kingdom as well as in former British colonies such as New Zealand and parts of the Caribbean and has been a recognized holiday for over 400 years. Guy Fawkes Day traditions are becoming increasingly popular in the United States as well. Wondering how to celebrate Guy Fawkes Day for the first time or need some new ideas for Guy Fawkes Day? A Guy Fawkes Day party is often celebrated with fireworks or bonfires to signify the foiling of the Gunpowder Plot.
 Guy Fawkes Day party ideas:
  •  Arrange a bonfire feast for friends and family. Cook cubes of beef, chunks of vegetables, olive oil and garlic in the fire by wrapping everything in tin foil and placing at the base of the fire.
  •  This holiday is also referred to as Bonny Day, Bonfire Day and Cracker Day (firecrackers and bonfires galore!) so make your party just like a carnival and plan to have outdoor games, a buffet table with food and lots of fun desserts.
  •  If the weather keeps everyone indoors, the BBC has an interactive game, the Gunpowder Plot Game, which puts your knowledge of history to the test. It doesn't matter what you know, this game is fun for history buffs and novices.
