Broadway Themed Party

Make your next get together a Broadway themed party. This party theme is a fun way to pay homage to some of the classic Broadway shows while taking advantage of the upbeat music, dancing and bright lights for which Broadway is known. Here are some easy Broadway themed party ideas to help you create a memorable celebration.

  • Invitations: Create Broadway themed digital invitations to send to your party guests. Include iconic Broadway visuals into your invitation design like a playbill, a Broadway street sign or the comedy/tragedy masks. Also, decide if you want to focus on multiple Broadway shows or just one or two of your favorites!
  • Decorations: Broadway party decorations are an essential part of a Broadway theme party. You want your guests to feel like they have traveled to Broadway as soon as they enter the party space. Start with wall décor by framing old playbills, Broadway posters and other theater-related items. Create festive centerpieces by decorating flower vases with playbills or production scripts. Complete the look with bouquets of vibrant colored flowers. Also include things such as Broadway street signs, a director's chair, fake theater tickets, dramatic lighting and red curtains.
  • Music: To reinforce the Broadway party theme, create a playlist of classic upbeat show tunes from popular Broadway musicals. This will ensure that everyone is singing, dancing and having fun. A few must have songs to add to your Broadway playlist are:
    • Dancing Queen— Mama Mia!
    • All That Jazz—Chicago
    • Working My Way Back to You—Jersey Boys
    • Footloose—Footloose
    • Oklahoma! — Oklahoma
  • Party Games: Plan a few Broadway party games to keep your guests entertained throughout the party. In advance of the party, ask all the guests to dress up as their favorite Broadway character and vote on the best cosutme. It is also a good idea to have a basket of extra Broadway props (boas, hats, masks, etc.) in case someone forgets to dress up. Another game to play is "Name That Tune." Play a portion of a famous Broadway song and have everyone guess the name of the song and the show. The guest that guesses the most songs correctly, wins!
  • Party Favors: Complete your event with Broadway party favors. One idea is to make a CD that contains some of your favorite showtunes from the party playlist. This is perfect for guests who may not have much experiene with Broadway shows. Another idea for Broadway theme party favors is a traditional red and white popcorn bag filled with a variety of candies or flavored popcorn.

Use some of the ideas above to whisk your guests away to New York with a Broadway theme party for your next get together!
