Today's Reason to Celebrate

September 9, 2012 is

Grandparents Day

Founded in 1973 by Marian McQuade, a coal-miners wife who raised fifteen children and had forty-three grandchildren, Grandparents Day honors grandparents and seeks to strengthen the bond between grandparents and grandchildren. It is also dedicated to educating children about the valuable contributions seniors have made throughout history.

Grandparents Day is celebrated every year on the first Sunday after Labor Day. It's a great opportunity to talk to your grandparents about your family tree or look through old photo albums together. For grandparents who live far away, send free eCards to let them know you're thinking about them today. If your grandparents are no longer with us, consider volunteering to work with the elderly in your area.

Happy Grandparents Day to all the grandparents and grandchildren of the world!
