Today's Reason to Celebrate

July 1, 2010 was

Canada Day

O Canada! Today is the birthday of America's neighbor, eh? The establishment of the British North America Act of 1867 brought the first Canada Day celebration. Now called the Constitution Act of 1867, it united Canada as a single country with four provinces.

Canada is our northern neighbor, but some Canadians are even closer than that. In fact, many Hollywood actors, American sports stars and famous musicians are Canadian. Today, the nearly 35 million citizens of Canada will join them in celebrating their national pride. These “canucks” celebrate Canada Day similarly to how Americans honor their Independence Day—barbecues, parades and fireworks!

Even if you aren’t Canadian, today is the day to tip your hat to the creators of ice hockey and snowmobiles. Spend some loonies and toonies and have some poutine because it’s Canada Day!

  • July 1, 2010 is also International Joke Day & National Ginger Snap Day
  • July is National Grilling Month & National Ice Cream Month
