Bastille Day, Yellow Pigs, and Ice Cream…Reasons to Celebrate for July 12-18

This post written by Stephanie Fader, Marketing & PR Manager

If you don’t get your full serving of French fries Tuesday for National French Fries Day, you’ll certainly be able to enjoy another French celebration on Wednesday for Bastille Day! Bastille Day commemorates the beginning of the French Revolution and is celebrated throughout France with festivals, parades, and parties. Even if you don’t have any French roots, it’s still a great day to invite friends over for a dinner that includes French wine, bread, and cheese!

Another interesting reason to celebrate this week is Yellow Pig Day on Saturday, July 17. This holiday was created by mathematicians at Princeton University and revolves entirely around the number 17. Make this tradition one of your own by celebrating in your own way. You can have 17 candles on a cake, 17 types of beverages to sample, 17 pieces of candy in a goody bag, etc. This is a great holiday to be creative!

The full list of Reasons to Celebrate this week includes:

  • July 12: Pecan Pie Day
  • July 13: National French Fries Day
  • July 14: Bastille Day
  • July 15: National Gummi Worm Day
  • July 16: National Corn Fritters Day
  • July 17: Yellow Pig Day
  • July 18: National Ice Cream Day

A great end to the week is National Ice Cream Day on Sunday, July 18. Head to your local ice cream shop for a cone of your favorite flavor. Better yet, host an ice cream social with homemade ice cream.

Have a wonderful week. Stay cool!

  1. Allan ( The Swami's father) Says:

We celebrated National Ice Cream Day by going to one ice cream stand for appetizer and a second stand for main course. Dessert will be at home later, maybe ice cream again. Much to my surprise no one serving ice cream at either place knew it was National Ice Cream day. I tried to do more to spread the word about the day and how to learn what to celebrate on mypunchbowl.
